ABOUT ME
Re-Elect Vice President
Dr. Alma Castro

MY COMMITMENTS & EXPERIENCE
The education and safety of students in my community are my priority. I have a sincere interest in ensuring all students have access to a high quality equitable education. Lynwood has been home for my family and I for over 35 years. My eight siblings and I attended Lynwood schools in grades K-12. My daughter is attending Lynwood schools. I have served in public schools for twenty years, as a middle school teacher and a high school assistant principal. In my current position as the Director of the Multilingual California Project for the California Association for Bilingual Education, I work with a dynamic team to promote biliteracy, equity in multilingual education, and crafting teacher professional development. As an adjunct professor for the Teacher Preparation Program at CSULB, I prepare current and future teachers in meeting the needs of all students.
WORKING TOGETHER
The pandemic taught us new ways of connecting with one another and highlighted even further the need to support students social emotional well being. As educators we have an unprecedented challenge that begins with creating powerful connections. In order to provide equitable opportunities for our students, we must listen deeply, engage fully and humanize the experiences of our students, families and educators. Working together, we deepen our commitment to supporting students. We must listen, lean into ambiguity, and demonstrate the collective resilience needed to continue ahead and grow together. Our students deserve no less and I believe they can lead the way. We can and will continue to grow together, find new ways of supporting one another and continue to create equitable and just educational systems for our beloved students.
